Healthy & fresh onto the Table SSC is short for Gondwana's Self Sufficiency Centre, a small farming operation which keeps chickens, pigs and cattle and also runs hothouses, a butchery, smokehouse and cheese dairy. The SSC is situated on the fringes of the village of Stampriet east of Mariental, in the fertile valley of the seasonal Auob River in the midst of the Kalahari Desert. The valley has strong artesian wells. The SSC supplies our accommodation facilities with fresh vegetables and fruit as well as cheese, cold meats and fresh meat - venison in particular. In addition, each of the accommodation establishments keeps pigs for utilising kitchen waste and hothouses for growing herbs and lettuce. About 70 percent of our fresh produce needs are covered by the SSC. With this operation Gondwana also creates additional, urgently needed jobs - vitally important in a region where about every second person is unemployed. What counts most for Gondwana's guests, however, is probably this: be it lettuce, tomatoes, paprika and cucumbers, or milk, cottage cheese, Gouda and Mozzarella, or sausages, ham and meat - everything is mouth-wateringly fresh.
