There was great excitement at Cañon Lodge, Cañon Village and Kalahari Anib Lodge on Easter Sunday. The Easter Bunny had made his way there and prepared an Easter egg hunt. All the children joined in the fun and the eggs were found in no time.
Mr Rabbit was also out and about in the north of the country and stopped by at Etosha Safari Lodge. Just as he started to drop off prettily wrapped Easter nests in front of the guest chalets a heavy shower caught him by surprise. The bunny fled into the lodge’s breakfast room and without further ado decorated the tables with the nests full of yummy sweets.
Also at Cañon Roadhouse guests were delighted about breakfast tables decorated with loving care. More than 200 hardboiled eggs had been painted with cheerful colours which contributed to the guest’s high spirits. Lots of souvenir photos were taken. Not to be outdone, the kitchen proudly dished up delectable homemade Hot Cross Buns for breakfast.
Easter is a day of great joy in the Christian faith, a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Easter always coincides with the Sunday following the first full moon on or after the March equinox. Therefore it is also a celebration of spring in the northern hemisphere. Our lodges, nestling in landscapes of luscious green after an exceptionally extensive rainy season, had a particularly good reason this year to celebrate the abundance of life-giving water and did so with traditional Easter customs.
At Damara Mopane Lodge and Namib Desert Lodge the emphasis was on Easter handicraft work with children, resulting in beautifully painted Easter eggs and fancily decorated baskets.
