Since Gondwana acquired two new lodges in Namibia’s water-rich northeast during the past six months, transport by water has also entered the discussion.
The 'fleet' of Hakusembe River Lodge on the Okavango River has been expanded by a modern flat-bottomed boat for fishing trips. The boat is 'hippo-proof' so that guests can relax and simply enjoy their excursion. With regard to catches the trips made so far have been a success as well. Hakusembe River Lodge has been renovated following the flooding in March and a standby generator was installed.
Namushasha River Lodge also got a new boat for sundowner rides on the Kwando River. It is for 18 passengers, more than double the number that the existing eight-seater boat can carry. A standby generator was installed at Namushasha, too.
However, not only the latest two additions to the Gondwana family are being spruced up: improvements are also underway at the
Cañon Village, 20 km from the Fish River Canyon. A new bar with a large regulars’ table and a comfortable lounge, which offers a lot more space than the previous one, is under construction a little apart from the main building. The premises of the 'old' bar have been used to enlarge the reception, including a bigger, more attractive souvenir shop. Construction work is already nearing completion.
