The Gondwana Collection is green at heart. This has been noticed by the Council for Sustainable Development (Rat für Nachhaltige Entwicklung) in Germany. The organisation recently awarded its Werkstatt N seal of quality to Gondwana. Since 2011 the Council annually honours 100 ideas and projects which bring alive a sustainable way of thought and conduct in everyday life. Initiatives in foreign countries were included for the first time this year.

Gondwana received the award for its sustainable tourism products which focus on nature conservation and social commitment. Nature conservation, tourism and people are the three pillars of Gondwana’s company philosophy. Without nature conservation no tourism and without tourism no job opportunities.

Based on this concept, tourists from all over the world are able to experience a very special Namibia adventure. It all comes together with four professionally managed nature reserves, uniquely designed lodges which are run on sustainable principles in the vicinity of Namibia’s major sights as well as forthcoming and amiable staff and narrating Namibian stories

More than 150,000 German travellers stayed at the lodges of the Gondwana Group in 2015. Most of the comments which they posted on internet portals like TripAdvisor and HolidayCheck expressed excitement and enthusiasm.

Gondwana appreciates receiving the Werkstatt N seal of quality and being included in the projects page of the Council for Sustainable Development. Main aspects of the Council’s assessment of applications are a comprehensive understanding of sustainability with regard to ecology, economy and social matters, the correlation of method and goal as well as originality.

The German government appointed the first Council for Sustainable Development in April 2001.
