Sharing is caring – Gondwana launches welfare initiatives - Namibia Safari and Lodges - Gondwana Collection

COVID-19. Status quo in Namibia.

It is with regret that Gondwana Collection Namibia has learnt that the COVID-19 virus has reached Namibia. On 14 March 2020, President Hage Geingob confirmed the first two cases. On 17 March, the President declared a state of emergency.

On 24 March 2020, the additional measures in response to the COVID-19 outbreak have been announced. They include a lockdown of the Khomas and Eronogo regions from 27 March until 16 April 2020. For regulations and guidelines please click here

Gondwana is fully aware of the current situation and continues to monitor the spread of the virus and the resulting changes to our industry. In view of the state of emergency and the additional measures ordered by the government, employees at Gondwana House in Windhoek will be working from home. Due to international and regional travel restrictions Gondwana has reduced its operations at the lodges as far as possible. Most employees have been sent home, at full pay.

The Ministry of Health has made availability for a toll-free phone number within Namibia for queries with regards to COVID-19. The toll-free number is 800-100-100 or alternatively 911.

Sharing is caring – Gondwana launches welfare initiatives

Avatar of inke inke - 31. May 2017 - Gondwana Collection

The Gondwana Care Trust and Meal for Two (in partnership with Bank Windhoek) are the latest corporate social responsibility initiatives introduced by The Gondwana Collection to the media today (31 May 2017) at the Namibia Tourism Expo in Windhoek. Gondwana and Bank Windhoek also launched their Faces of Namibia campaign that aims to celebrate the stories and impressions that Namibians hold dear.

Gondwana Care Trust – Sharing our hearts

Gondwana lodges are run as tight-knit groups with close connections to their surrounding communities. This makes our commitment to social responsibility and community support fundamental to the way our company is run as we have always strived to make a positive difference to our environment and communities. With the eager involvement of the “Gondwana Memes & Tates”, a group of dedicated men and women, we have supported many worthy initiatives over the years.

Encouraged by the success of these, we have formalized this important focus by establishing the Gondwana Care Trust - a dedicated Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) fund. This new and formal operation will be responsible for the management of all CSI initiatives Gondwana is engaged in. The Gondwana Care Trust currently supports more than 20 projects across Namibia. Our efforts include; donation of food, clothing, bedding, educational products for schools, and support of important environmental causes, like the Wild Horses Foundation.

By establishing the Trust, we hope to increase public awareness of these projects and to provide a channel for other like-minded people and businesses to get involved and enhance the good we are able to do. If you are interested, please contact us.

In connection with the Gondwana Care Trust we have more good news. From now on, the Trust will cover the N$40.00 contribution, previously paid by each guest to the Local Family School and Conservation Fund at the Chobe River Camp (former Camp Chobe).

Meal for Two – Sharing the plight of hunger

Many Namibians end their days on empty stomachs. The Gondwana Collection and Bank Windhoek aims to reduce the number of people for whom this is a daily reality.

The principle of Meal for Two has already been in action for some time now. Through Gondwana’s Self Sufficiency Centre – a working farm in Stampriet that produces 80% of food consumed at our lodges – we provide ongoing support to many feeding schemes with meat and vegetable donations.

Our intention is to expand on this annual food donation through the creation of the MEAL FOR TWO project in partnership with Bank Windhoek. What this will mean is that every time a guest enjoys a meal at one of our lodges, an additional meal will be provided to someone in need. In this way by simply staying at a Gondwana Lodge, guests will be helping to improve the life of an underprivileged Namibian. Bank Windhoek will be providing a generous donation to the cause, allowing us to make this promise a reality.

By formalizing this project, we aim to also put in place additional opportunities for guests and local Namibians to contribute to the reduction of hunger in Namibia.

Faces of Namibia – Sharing Namibian stories

Every face has a story to tell – and we want to hear yours.

Namibia is a special country and so are its people. So this year in partnership with Bank Windhoek, we’ve decided to celebrate our country and its people by inviting Namibians to share their personal stories about the things, places, people or just memorable moments (whether funny or sad) that have meant something special to them. Whether about someone in your life, what makes a Namibian sunset special, or even the strength of a quiver tree, whatever has or continues to touch you in some way, we would like to hear about and inspire others with.

Share your stories with us and stand a chance to win N$10 000.00! Stories may not exceed a maximum of 1000 words, but there is no minimum word requirement. All stories will be published with a picture of the story teller.

Terms and Conditions can be viewed on the Gondwana and Bank Windhoek Websites and stories submitted at competition(at)

The competition runs from 1 June 2017 until 31 July, and winners will be announced at the end of August.

Don’t miss Gondwana’s exhibition at this year’s Tourism Expo. Our Heart & Soul Market at the Gondwana Hall supports local craftsmen and women to sell their authentic Namibian products. Furthermore, we give our partner organisations in social responsibility the opportunity to promote their various causes.
