Gondwana funds new Kindergarten near Hakusembe River Lodge

Avatar of inke inke - 20. September 2017 - Gondwana Collection

The new building of the Paukeni Kindergarten close to
Hakusembe River Lodge was officially opened on 12 September 2017, by the Headman of the Sikondo village, Alfons Kavera. The Hakusembe Community Development Fund necessitated the reconstruction of the building. A jungle gym was also constructed for the kids inside the fenced school yard. The previous Kindergarten building was badly damaged during the last rainy season.

The ceremony was well attended by parents and other members of the village, teachers and learners from the Ru-Rumwe Primary School close to the Kindergarten, representatives of the Ministry of Gender and Child Welfare and staff from the Hakusembe River Lodge. School Choirs, youth groups and community members alike entertained the audience with song and dance, making the ceremony joyful for all.

On this day, the Headman also inaugurated the new borehole hand pump, which was drilled and installed in the centre of the village to provide clean water to the communities as well as the new fence around the Ru-Rumwe Primary School to improve the security at the school grounds - two more projects by the Hakusembe Community Development Fund.

The Gondwana Collection greatly values its relationships with the surrounding communities at all the Gondwana properties in Namibia and constantly works to uplift these communities. When Gondwana took over the Hakusembe River Lodge in 2012 the lodge group established the Hakusembe Community Development Fund to bring some benefits to the local community. A portion of each guest fee goes into a fund, which is used to support projects in the vicinity of the lodge particularly focussing on education and youth development, access to potable water and sanitation facilities, and a clean and healthy environment.

The Hakusembe Community Development Fund is now administered by the newly established Gondwana Care Trust
