Vegetable boxes for the Mammadù Trust

Remarkable sound effects were emanating from the grounds of the Gondwana Travel Centre in Windhoek on Friday, 19 January. The noise of hammering and sawing mingled with peals of laughter as some 70 staffers deserted their desks and rolled up their sleeves for some manual work. It was an afternoon of teambuilding, organised by Teambuild Namibia. The highlight of the entertaining exercise was a group project to construct small, portable vegetable gardens and The Taste Academy made sure that nobody was left hungry or ran out of energy.

The inveterate pencil pushers tackled the sweat-inducing construction task with plenty of enthusiasm. All the effort was for a good cause, after all: on 26 January the little vegetable gardens were handed to the Mammadù Trust, a charitable organisation which provides education, homework assistance and three meals a day to disadvantaged children in Katutura. At the same time the children’s mothers are given the opportunity to earn an income by turning recycled materials into craft products.

The partnership with the Mammadù Trust is coordinated by the Gondwana Care Trust. Gondwana buys Mammadù products for the souvenir shops of its lodges and also supplies meat from its Self-Sufficiency Centre in Stampriet to the charitable organisation.

The Gondwana Care Trust supports more than 20 projects all over Namibia, among others by donating food, clothing, bed linen and educational material to schools, but environmental initiatives such as the Namibia Wild Horses Foundation are also among the recipients. If you would like to offer charitable support through the Gondwana Care Trust, please get in touch here.
