Bea Johnson, author, speaker and influencer for a Zero Waste lifestyle.

Inke Stoldt

Can you imagine producing only one jar of waste per year? Whether you believe it or not, it’s possible, even with a stylish lifestyle. Bea Johnson is the shining example for a Zero Waste lifestyle. “The Priestess of Waste-Free Living” as The New York Times puts it, will visit Namibia next week and host inspirational talks in Windhoek and Swakopmund. Gondwana Collection is one of the proud sponsors supporting her stay in Namibia.

The French native who currently lives in California, will share her tribulations and secrets to achieving Zero Waste. She covers the importance of applying the 5 R's (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot) and shatters misconceptions, proving that the Zero Waste lifestyle can not only be “stylish”, but also lead to significant health benefits, and time and money savings. She manages to talk about her personal journey with humor and without preaching. She brings an intimidating topic down to a manageable scale.

Bea and her family only produce one jar of waste per year, and have done so since 2008. With her passion and positive outlook, Bea initiated a global movement and has become the spokesperson for the zero waste lifestyle. Through her blog and with her book, Zero Waste Home, she inspires a growing international community to live simply and take a stance against needless waste.

“Zero Waste Home is an amazing story of personal transformation. It compels us to recognize that our heedlessly wasteful ways are not gateways to prosperity and convenience, but barriers to a good life and a healthy planet. Bea Johnson has produced an invaluable resource.” - Edward Humes, Pulitzer Prize winner, author.

Bea Johnson will host her inspirational talks on Monday, 18 June, 18:00 at The Village Opera House in Windhoek and on 21 June, 18:00 at the Strand Hotel in Swakopmund. Tickets (N$100) are available at EventsToday as well as at Farmganic, Red Shelf and Shalom in Swakopmund.
