Windhoekers excited by Gondwana's Black Friday Sale - Namibia Safari and Lodges - Gondwana Collection

COVID-19. Status quo in Namibia.

It is with regret that Gondwana Collection Namibia has learnt that the COVID-19 virus has reached Namibia. On 14 March 2020, President Hage Geingob confirmed the first two cases. On 17 March, the President declared a state of emergency.

On 24 March 2020, the additional measures in response to the COVID-19 outbreak have been announced. They include a lockdown of the Khomas and Eronogo regions from 27 March until 16 April 2020. For regulations and guidelines please click here

Gondwana is fully aware of the current situation and continues to monitor the spread of the virus and the resulting changes to our industry. In view of the state of emergency and the additional measures ordered by the government, employees at Gondwana House in Windhoek will be working from home. Due to international and regional travel restrictions Gondwana has reduced its operations at the lodges as far as possible. Most employees have been sent home, at full pay.

The Ministry of Health has made availability for a toll-free phone number within Namibia for queries with regards to COVID-19. The toll-free number is 800-100-100 or alternatively 911.

Windhoekers excited by Gondwana's Black Friday Sale

Avatar of inke inke - 29. November 2019 - Gondwana Collection

What a joy! Jason (l.) and Romano Ramothibe (r.) bought their vouchers after a long night of waiting. Gondwana's managing director Gys Joubert (centre) shares their delight.

The first Black Friday bargain hunters arrived on Thursday at 16:30 in front of Gondwana House in Windhoek. With fold-up chairs and cool boxes they were prepared for a long night, because the vouchers for a super special price were only available at 6 o'clock in the morning. 10,000 vouchers in five price categories, starting at N$199 per person per night at a Gondwana property.

Those who were the first to get to the voucher sale when the gates opened at 6 a.m. had smiling faces. Most bought the allowed 50 vouchers per person. Almost all of them wanted to use the vouchers for family holidays. Among them were Harald Schmidt and his son-in-law Matthew Jackman, who immediately moved on to the booking office and booked a 10-day vacation with the whole family (9 people) at six Gondwana Lodges near Etosha and in the Zambezi Region.

The Namibian Kwaito star EES and some family members were also sitting in the queue on Thursday evening to get vouchers for family and close friends.

Already on Thursday evening the first bargain hunters arrived at Gondwana, among them the Namibian Kwaito star EES.

The Black Friday Sale went smoothly, thanks to the friendly police presence at the gate and the organizational talent of some people waiting in line. On Thursday evening, at dusk, two women walked through the queue and put everyone on a list. They wanted to make sure that the “first come, first serve” principle was adhered to. Those who stayed all night should be the first ones to come to the voucher sale-points in the morning. Some Gondwana staff set up a barbecue and braaid boere-wors. In the morning there was a bit of anxiety with the arrival of new bargain hunters, but it quickly subsided.

The Black Friday Online Sale was also very popular. In addition to numerous lodge bookings with a 50 percent discount, there were a lot of inquiries that kept Gondwana's booking department in suspense. On Cyber Monday (2.12.) online bookings at half price are possible again. The Namibia2Go car rental is also available at a 25 percent discount. The special prices for rental cars are valid until Cyber Monday.

Bright faces on Harald Schmidt (l.) and his son-in-law Matthew Jackman. The two moved directly from the voucher purchase to Faith Hansen (l.) at the Gondwana booking office.
