Gondwana promotes healthy lifestyles among its staff and as part of that supports the work of the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN).

A professional CAN team will tour the country this year and visit our lodges to provide health education and valuable advice on healthy lifestyles. It will also offer cancer screening including pap smear, breast examination and prostate cancer examinations at the lodges as well as nearby villages and settlements. The CAN team, consisting of Chief Executive Officer Rolf Hansen and Senior Nurse Christolina Kavetuna will be assisted by local volunteers (registered nurses).

“It remains imperative that all sectors of Namibia’s vibrant society become involved in the fight against this disease that is threatening our community”, Rolf Hansen says. “A third of cancer types can be prevented, while especially cervical cancer that is flooding over Namibia like a tsunami, can be prevented, cured effectively if early detected and lives saved. We applaud Gondwana and our other partners in taking in the call to arms to help fight cancer in Namibia – together we can beat cancer!”

The CAN project is partnered by First National Bank of Namibia and Sanlam Namibia as the main sponsors of the medical check-ups and screening. Due to their generous support the contribution of the patients participating in the cancer screening could be kept to N$50.00 pp. Gondwana provides board and lodging for the Cancer Association’s team and pays for its own staff’s medical check-ups.

The first campaign and cancer screening will be at Namushasha River Lodge on 4 and 5 of April 2016, involving the community of the Mashi Conservancy and in Katima Mulilo. The second campaign will be on the 6th and 7th of April at Hakusembe River Lodge and in nearby Rundu followed by Canyon RoadhouseLodge and Village from 10 to 12 April, from where the CAN delegation will proceed to Keetmanshoop and Lüderitzbucht.
