Yesterday afternoon, the Gondwana Collection welcomed the arrival of the two European, and three South African based riders, who will be tackling the 2017 Nedbank Desert Dash.

This initiative was introduced to the Gondwana Collection by the enthusiastic and competitive cyclist, Piet Swiegers from Klein-Aus Vista Lodge with the idea to promote Namibia as a cycling destination by participating in this international cycling event.

Gondwana Collection entered two four-man teams. Hand-picked, packed with experience and well recognized riders from Belgium, Germany, South Africa, and Namibia. These riders will ride in two well balanced teams, namely Gondwana Dust Devils, made up of senior, experienced riders who have competed in the well-known Cape Epic, and the Gondwana Gravel Gliders, consisting of a younger, powerhouse generation.

Andrew McLean, a well-known celebrity in the southern African cycling community, will surely be a highlight to the initiative, and is earmarked to form the backbone of the onslaught with his wealth of knowledge and racing aptitude.

According to Gondwana’s Director of Brand and Marketing, Manni Goldbeck, the company aims to establish cycling as an activity driven element in the Namibian tourism industry. Two of the properties that form part of the collection, already offer mountain bikes for hire. They have also already invested into well designed and developed tracks, offering guests an eco-friendly experience close to nature. Klein-Aus Vista offers a challenging and unique annual event, which has become a popular date on the Namibian cycling calendar.

This first taste the Gondwana Collection has had of the Desert Dash is surely marked by a strong competitive edge within the 2017 event. Despite this, the group of eight riders have set a target of at least one or two podium positions at the finish line in Swakopmund.

The tremendous support offered by the Gondwana Collection towards the two teams, forms the solid foundation toward a visionary success story for the future of cycling within the tourism industry.

Gondwana will also be sending a team of photographers en route with the Desert Dash. Please feel free to share and download the photographs.
