Baines Vetcare Mobile Animal Clinic is the only mobile vet clinic in Namibia.

The Baines Vetcare Mobile Animal Clinic visits remote towns around the country, sets up base and invites community members to bring their pets for free spay and neuter services. Their main focus is to help pets from low or no income households in areas where no veterinary services are available. At the beginning of June, Dr Ian Baines and his team visited the Eastern Zambezi Region. Gondwana supported their cause and invited them to stay at Namushasha River Lodge, Chobe River Camp and Zambezi Mubala Lodge.

“Thanks to Gondwana we were able to spend days working in villages that we would otherwise have by-passed en-route to the bigger centres”, Dr Baines says. “Kongola, Kalimbeza and Bukalo have now been added to the list of places we work and many dogs (and even some cats) can now begin their new life of health and happiness after being sterilized, vaccinated and treated for internal and external parasites.”

Valde Leonard takes care of the sterilised dogs.

The Baines Vetcare Mobile Animal Clinic works in partnership with the non-profit animal welfare organisations Have-A-Heart, SPCA and the Cat Protection Society. Baines said besides helping to limit uncontrolled breeding, sterilisation also improves the animals’ general health.

Baines Vetcare, the only mobile clinic in Namibia operates on six established routes around the country and tours the country one week per month. The North-eastern route includes Rundu and Katima Mulilo; North-west: Kamanjab, Khorixas, Outjo; East: Omitara, Witvlei, Drimiopsis; West: Karibib, Usakos, Uis; South-east: Keetmanshoop, Grünau, Karasburg; South-west: Bethanie, Aus, Lüderitz.

The mobile clinic aims to neuter 200 animals per trip.

What a fantastic and magnanimous gesture on behalf of the Ian Baines Veterinary Clinic. And to Gondwana for taking care of them on their travels. I salute all of you. Jenny Lourens.
