150 years of Namibia-Finland relations started in Ondonga territory

27. mars 2020, inke - Gondwana Collection, Tourism

Only a few kilometres from Ondangwa in north-central Namibia lies a hidden historic treasure: the first mission station in the area at Olukonda, founded in 1870 and now a museum together with the house of the Lutheran pastor. This was 150 years ago and the fact that the first missionary there, Martti Rautanen hailed from Finland, is the reason for a significant anniversary later this year near Olukonda. Preparations to celebrate 150 years of Finland-Namibia relations are on the way.

Palmwag Lodge & Camp is currently undergoing a rigorous facelift. Upon completion of the renovation works in the middle of August 2020 the staff village will also be revamped - and the Palmwag team enthusiastically lend their hands. In February, they started producing their own bricks, which they will contribute to the construction process of the new personnel housing. To this end, 20 staff members of Palmwag Lodge & Camp attended a half-day training in the art of brickmaking in December 2019, which was offered and partly sponsored by Ohorongo Cement in support of community development.
