Dirt roads, desert & starlit dinner

22. mars 2019, inke - Gondwana Collection, Tourism

There are few things as liberating as hitting the road to the south. The mere thought of the transition from tar road to gravel already conveys a holiday feeling that replenishes the spirit. With an all-girls group of friends, we set off to Namib Desert Camping2Go’s recently introduced campsite in the south. We wanted… needed to be as close to nature as possible. To soak up the sounds of nature when sitting around the campfire at night.

On the Road again: from Damaraland to Etosha and the Okavango River

19. mars 2019, inke - Gondwana Collection, Tourism

After a good rest I am full of beans for the next leg of the journey – the Etosha-Cuvelai Route, which leads from the heart of the country to the north, and I head eastwards towards the town of Outjo, the gateway to Etosha National Park. Every visit to Etosha is a surprise, revealing something new. From here I continue through the Owambo regions heading northeast. Anticipation starts to build up as I enter this greener part of the country with its perennial river systems.

Welcome Desert Grace – jewel of the desert

24. décembre 2018, inke - Gondwana Collection, Tourism

It was an auspicious day when I travelled south for the opening of The Desert Grace on 1 November, positioned elegantly and robustly between a belt of apricot dunes. Dusky pinks and soft luxuriant touches grace the interior with stylish flourishes and artistic finishes. The Grace generously shares the ancient wisdom of the Namib that it keeps (so secretly) to itself - that a wealth of fragile loveliness can be found in its seemingly tough exterior.

Swakopmund’s super talent is barely taller than his instrument

21. décembre 2018, inke - Culture, Gondwana Collection

Kati places both his hands onto the hard-stretched skin of the bongo drum. Energetically, the knuckly part of his palm touches the edge of the drum, effortlessly his fingers follow, bouncing off the head. In alternation of thumb and fingertips he makes a gentle sound, changing to a faster tempo, creating a rhythmic liveliness. His enthusiasm is evident. Kati is five years old and barely taller than his instrument.
