These riders of the Aus Development Team completed the race successfully and all managed to claim a place on the podium.

Over the last weekend in April, over 78 ambitious mountain bikers met for the 7th annual Klein-Aus Vista Mountain Bike Challenge. The various stages were marked by difficult terrain, steep climbs and a few head-to-head races. More than half the competitors participated in the marathon and took on the full 60km challenge, while the rest of the group rode in the half-marathon of 33km.

The time trials and first stage for the men’s Elite Class was dominated by Costa Seibeb. He was the only one to overcome a steep, two-kilometre climb, called ‘The Wall’, without dismounting, shaking off his rival, Xavier Papo. Unfortunately, Seibeb was killed in a traffic accident the night before the last stage. In commemoration of an excellent cyclist, ‘The Wall’ has been renamed ‘Costa’s Climb’.

The marathon’s men Elite Class was finally won by Xavier Papo, followed by Plaatjies Brandon. In the women’s class, Irene Steyn claimed victory, prevailing against Germien Stals. In the half marathon, Barry Jones and Sonja Obholzer recorded the fastest times. The detailed results of the Klein-Aus Vista MTB Challenge can be found here

The main organiser, Piet Swiegers, thanked all participants, their families and friends for taking the long road to the Aus Mountains in southern Namibia. He also paid tribute to all sponsors who contributed significantly to the success of the event. As marketing partner to Klein-Aus Vista, this also includes the Gondwana Collection. The lodge group sponsored the grand prize of N$10 000.00 for the overall men and women’s winners.
