New eco-friendly lodge in the Gondwana Namib Park

The Gondwana Collection is building a new lodge in the endless expanse of the Namib. Construction is in full swing.

“The lodge will reflect the solitude, space and mesmerizing colours of the Namib Desert,” says Alain Noirfalise, Gondwana’s Director of Operations. “It will offer an upmarket alternative to the Namib Desert Lodge, 10km away. The name: The Desert Grace.”

The construction design is environmentally friendly. The main building material consists of sandbags that are filled on site. The natural building material has excellent sound and thermal insulation qualities.

There will be twenty spacious double rooms and four family units (with a total of 56 beds), all with bath and air conditioning, and a small private pool as well as a spacious main building, with reception, restaurant and bar. The new lodge is equipped with its own water recycling plant; the energy supply is largely covered by solar energy.

The construction project has been undertaken by an experienced team that worked with Gondwana on The Delight Swakopmund. The design was created by local architect Sven-Erik Staby. The main contractor OJ Construction works according to strict environmental regulations. The Gondwana Namib Park borders the World Natural Heritage site, the Namib Sand Sea.

The Desert Grace will open its doors on 1 November 2018.
