Café of the month: Village Café, Swakopmund

Avatar of inke inke - 15. November 2017 - Tourism, Discover Namibia

This colourful café always delights. Its relaxed and quirky character, down-to-earth food, great coffee and friendly vibe keep you coming back again and again. You’ll also keep returning for the wisdom from their favourite Oscar Wilde quote, which has a prime position on their wall: ‘Life is much too important to be taken seriously!’

In their words: ‘Village Cafe is a local gathering place which tends to attract a bunch of darn interesting people! It is a home-cooking, family run space where grandma’s recipes are still being used.’

You’ve got to enjoy the local flavour, like their ‘beskuit & koffie’ – a mug of coffee with two rusks, their Koeka Shop – displaying their selection of cakes and muffins - and their ‘Ma se brood - affie plaas af’ (Mom’s bread – straight from the farm) meals.

Don’t worry, their menu still includes brötchen, all-day breakfast, wraps, burgers and salads (‘all approved by non-smoking, no-fur-wearing members of Greenpeace and the Free Willy Foundation . . . as well as NASA’).

No-one has been left out at the Village Café. This is also ‘where the hip hounds and funky felines hang out!’ as their Doggy Menu declares. It includes juicy pork sausage – growlicious! And chicken breast – grilled to purrfection!

With its bright and cosy interior and outside courtyard, and ample charm and good humour, it’s not surprising that the Village Café is popular with both locals and visitors.

As they say:
(we insist!)’
