The 8th Standard Bank Klein-Aus Vista Mountain Bike Challenge will take place from 3 to 5 May this year.

Inke Stoldt

Saddle your two-wheeled steed and join the 8th Standard Bank Klein-Aus Vista Mountain Bike Challenge in the unique mountain world of the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park from 3 to 5 May 2018.

Participants can choose to compete in a marathon (60km per day) or a half-marathon (33km per day) each consisting of two stages with 60-70 percent of the route being single tracks. There are four water and marshal points along the route providing beverages and food. The time trial on 3 May is compulsory for all participants in the full marathon.

The demanding route leads through a unique landscape of granite mountains, rugged valleys and meandering dry riverbeds. Many spots along the way afford grand views of the Namib plains – for safety reasons participants will probably not be able to appreciate them, however... Sections of the route follow a historic path which the Schutztruppe used during the First World War for transporting water with mules and ox wagon to their entrenchments at the western foothills of the mountains. The fortifications on the mountain slopes can still be seen today.

Race entries already closed on 1 April, but late entries will be accepted until 15 April 2018 as long as the maximum number of 150 participants has not been reached yet.
