Surprise, surprise for the 70,000th Gondwana Card holder! A bottle of bubbly and a voucher (2 nights for 2 persons with breakfast) was waiting for Mr Verukisa Kahorongo when he came to collect his Gondwana Card

The Gondwana Card is issued to Namibians and citizens of the SADC region and has proved to be a huge success. Small wonder, because Gondwana was the first tourism company to offer Namibians the opportunity to take a holiday with a 50% discount on bed and breakfast (40% for SADC citizens) and another 25% off on dinner and activities. The card was already introduced in 2007 as a brainchild of Gondwana’s Brand and Marketing Director Mannfred Goldbeck and has increased in popularity ever since.

“While we were developing lodges at the main tourist attractions we realised that most Namibians could not afford a holiday in their own country”, Goldbeck says. “The average income in Namibia and the SADC countries is significantly lower than for example in Europe where most of our guests come from. With the Gondwana Card initiative, Gondwana wanted to enable more people from Namibia and the region at large to travel our country - in order to increase awareness within society of the value of nature and its gentle utilisation for tourism.”

Gondwana Card holders are spoilt for choice between 18 unique lodges, which are located close to Namibia’s attractions as well as one delightful hotel in Swakopmund.
