Clean toilets, friendly and efficient service at the fuel pumps, a well-stocked shop, shaded parking and information boards on the history of the town, can be found along the main road that leads south. On the morning of 31 March, owner Erno Bertolini and his employees rejoiced when they heard that they were crowned the “Best Shell Petrol Station of the Year 2016 in Namibia”.

Passing the baton - Gondwana welcomes new Managing Director

18. January 2017, inke - Gondwana Collection, Tourism

Gys Joubert started as Gondwana’s new Managing Director on 16 January. The forty year old lawyer knew exactly what he was getting himself into, as he has served on the group’s Board of Directors for the past year. “As I got to know the company better, I fell head over heels in love with it and its potential. My primary focus will be on growth, rather than change.” He is also sure of the support he will receive from his predecessor. Manni Goldbeck will stay on with the Gondwana Collection as the Director of Brand and Marketing.

Petition against illegal fishing stirring big waves

16. January 2017, inke - Environment, Gondwana Collection

Illegal fishing in Namibia is taking its final toll. Commercialization and exportation has placed immense pressure on the eco- and river systems, the local communities and tourism. This is stated through a video that was released on Friday morning (13/01) as part of an enlightenment campaign. Gondwana Collection Namibia is in full support of this initiative.

The first Gondwana Lodge opened its doors 20 years ago

11. November 2016, inke - Gondwana Collection

Exactly 20 years ago, the Canyon Lodge received its first guests. A few months earlier a group of businessmen with a love for nature in southern Namibia acquired several farms at the Fish River Canyon and established the Gondwana Canyon Park. The group decided to finance nature conservation with income generated by the hospitality business. The Canyon Lodge opened its doors on 14 November 1996 and became the beginning of Gondwana’s success story. By now the Gondwana Collection consists of fifteen accommodation establishments all over the country.

Lappet-faced Vultures are nesting close to Namib Desert Lodge

03. November 2016, inke - Gondwana Collection

They are scruffy, they look somehow strange, and they are scavengers making a living from others' misery - Vultures aren’t necessarily the birds with the best reputation. Well, a trip with MET’s Holger Kolberg and the Vultures Namibia team to the remote parts of the Namib Desert may change your mind. On the eastern boundary of the Namib Naukluft Park and just around the corner of Gondwana’s Namib Desert Lodge the untouched habitat is the breeding ground for many of Namibia’s Lappet-faced Vultures. Once a year Holger and his team - equipped with a Landcruiser and a long ladder - pay a visit.
