Facelift for Damara Mopane Lodge

Damara Mopane Lodge is currently undergoing a soft revamp. Fresh wall paint in all the lodge buildings as well as renovated, newly equipped and decorated rooms will enhance the Damaraland experience of our guests. As the lodge complex is spaciously designed current guests can enjoy their visit completely undisturbed. The hospitality operations are not affected by the renovation works which will be completed at the end of February 2017.

Fire at Hakusembe River Lodge quickly brought under control

Early this morning a fire caused some excitement at Hakusembe River Lodge. It started at 5 o’clock at a separate scullery building and spread over the lawn to the grass-roofed restroom at the swimming pool area. The staff reacted promptly and kept the fire under control until it was extinguished at 7.30 a.m. No one was injured. The cause and a damage estimate have not yet been determined.

Help where help is needed. That is the motto associated with the ‘Gondwana Memes & Tates’, an initiative driven by dynamic Gondwana employees. Working with dedicated partner organisations they ensure that donations and assistance reaches the needy and that their actions have the desired effect on the community. An example would be the relief operation in Swakopmund, which has recently been launched after a fire that broke out in the DRC informal settlement.

As of 2017 Gondwana will be offering slack-packing tours in the northern parts of the Fish River Canyon. This will give participants the opportunity to enjoy the hiking trail without the added weight of luggage and equipment. The Canyon Klipspringer Trail will replace the Mule Trails, which will only run until mid-September 2016. After ten years of faithful companionship to about 1,000 adventurous hikers, the mules have already found a new home near Windhoek.

In November this year, the leading hospitality company in Namibia will turn 21. From the beginning, the founding member and managing director, Mannfred Goldbeck, has been in the driver’s seat, steering the company in innovative new directions with his energy, warmth and vision. As Gondwana moves into the next decade, he has decided to hand over the reins to new blood. Mr Goldbeck will remain with the company as a senior executive and focus his energy on Gondwana Branding and Marketing.

640 School children and 60 volunteers came together to partake in a waste collection movement on the 600 ha land around the Hakusembe River Lodge. At the end of a morning of cleaning eight massive bags of rubbish had been collected. The waste collection movement took place on 17 June 2016, and was organised by Gondwana together with the local Sikondo-community near Rundu.

Waka Waka Solar Lights to be distributed in Namibia

The smallest light has always been able to break the darkest of nights, and the Dutch designed Waka Waka solar lights are going to make this even easier. On 14 June 2016, the Netherlands Minister of International Trade and Development, Honourable Lilianne Ploumen announced the introduction of the solar lights and chargers to the Namibian community. It is their hope that the Waka Waka lights will offer energy and light to off-grid communities and allow learners to study after dark.

These are the kind words used to describe the Gondwana Lodges that have received the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Kalahari FarmhouseDamara Mopane Lodge and the Canyon Roadhouse have each received a “Certificate of Excellence 2016” to award their dedication to providing outstanding customer service. TripAdvisor is a major travel-aid in the online world and offers travelers the opportunity to review and rate their experiences at various establishments across the globe.

Etosha Safari Camp: Finalist at the Responsible Tourism Awards

The Responsible Tourism Awards 2016 were presented at the Namibia Tourism Expo today (19 May). Etosha Safari Camp was one of three finalists in the Accommodation Establishment category, together with Wolwedans Boulders Camp and award winner Nkasa Lupala Tented Lodge. Sense of Africa received the tour operator award. The winners of the Responsible Tourism Awards were announced by the Expo organisers, Namibia Media Holdings. Etosha Safari Camp is located 9km from the Anderson Gate at the Etosha National Park.

What a party! Gondwana started its 20th anniversary celebrations at the Namibia Tourism Expo yesterday (18 May). Fancy Galada and the Professors brought the Gondwana Shebeen’s roof down with catchy rhythms, and Namibian Kwaito star EES feat. The Hunta performed their new song “Sundowner” for the first time. The Sundowner song is a partnership project with Gondwana, EES and Namibia Breweries. Download the song for free and watch the video on YouTube.
